Floating Timber Floors Care
While Rugmart Sydney floating timber floors are brilliant performers they are not indestructible. Their strength and beauty can be maintained by following simple guidlines and observing Do’s and Don’ts.
DO’S
- Do vacuum and sweep your floor frequently, especially in high-traffic areas.
- Do keep pets’ nails trimmed and their paws free of dirt, gravel, grease, oil, and stains.
- Do use protective window coverings to block fade-causing UV rays and excessive heat from direct sunlight, and rearrange rugs and furniture periodically to help your floor age evenly.
- Do remove shoes with spiked or damaged heels before walking on floor.
- Do use a humidifier during heating seasons to help reduce wood shrinkage and maintain proper relative humidity (between 35% – 55%).
DON’TS
- Do not wet-mop, damp-mop, or clean your floor with water or other liquids.
- Do not use hardwood floor-cleaning or buffing machines or steam cleaners.
- Do not use oil soaps, liquid or paste wax or other household products containing oil (such as citrus, lemon or tung oil), silicon or ammonia to clean floor.
- Do not use harsh cleaning aids such as steel wool pads, any scouring pads containing metal or scouring powders.
- Do not use 2-in-1 cleaners with polish that may contain acrylics or urethane polish to restore gloss.
CLEANING ROUTINE
Vacuum or sweep with a soft-bristle broom regularly, especially before using floor cleaners are used, to prevent gritty dirt and particle buildup that can scratch the wood’s surface. Don’t use vacuums with a beater bar or power rotary brush head. Wipe up spills and spots immediately. Use ice to harden tough substances such as candle wax or chewing gum and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper, such as a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. Wipe area clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
FLOOR MATS TO PROTECT YOUR FLOORS
High-qualityfloor mats at entrances and exits are key to reducing tile wear. They collect and trap all the corrosive substances that can be tracked in from outdoors, including dirt, sand, grit, oil, asphalt, or even driveway sealer. Also use mats in areas of constant pressure, such as in front of vanities, kitchen sinks and stoves.
USE PROTECTIVE PADS WITH FURNITURE
Attach felt or similar protective pads to all furniture legs, particularly heavy pieces. When you’re moving furniture, appliances or other heavy objects, use a dolly; never slide or roll anything across the floor. If furniture has hard plastic or metal casters/wheels, use protective mats underneath or replace them with soft rubber casters.

Laminate Care
Care of Quick-Step Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring is virtually maintenance-free. Routine cleaning requires you only to vacuum, use a dust mop, or a slightly damp (not wet) mop and dry with a clean, cotton cloth. Regular cleaning should be done with either Performance Accessories Hard Surface Cleaner or plain water (distilled if your area has particularly hard water). With its smooth surface, Quick Step flooring cannot retain dust or dirt.
NEVER use a wax, polish, oil, or varnish coating on the floor. Do not use soap, detergents, oil soaps, shine enhancers/restorers, or one-step clean and shine type products, or any product that squirts liquid directly on the floor. Do not use any type of cleaning machine such as spray mops, steam cleaners, or power cleaners.
For dry maintenance, use a dust mop, microfiber mop, or vacuum cleaner. Use only soft bristle attachments with your vacuum cleaner. Avoid vacuum attachments with ‘beater bars’, which could damage your floor. Ensure vacuum cleaner wheels are not impregnated with grit; plastic wheels may scratch your floor.
FOR BEVEL EDGED PRODUCTS, QUICK_STEP RECOMMEND DRY MAINTENANCE ONLY.
For damp maintenance: Apply Performance Accessories Hard Surface cleaning products (or plain water) lightly to a dry, soft cloth (never directly to the floor), wipe over floor. (Never use other cleaning products or detergents!) Only use a WELL WRUNG OUT CLOTH.
ALWAYS WIPE DRY IMMEDIATELY AFTER until no moisture is visible on the floor. DO NOT ALLOW FLOOR TO AIR DRY.
WET MAINTENANCE MUST NEVER BE USED on laminate. Never wet mop or use steam cleaners on your floor.
Remove stubborn stains carefully with a glue/adhesive remover (for sticky stains) or a little acetone (fingernail polish remover) on a soft cloth. Never use steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or scouring powder, as they will scratch your floor.
Quick Step laminate is based on pre-treated, glued HDF board. Despite Quick Step laminate’s relative moisture-resistance, remove any excess water immediately.
Cleaning solutions for specific problems:
For Grease, Juice, Wine, Mustard, Coffee, Tea, Milk Quick-Step recommend PA Hard Surface Cleaner or water & non-sudsy ammonia or water & vinegar.
For Crayon, Asphalt, Nail Polish, Paint, Lipstick, Ball Point Pen Ink, Laundry Marker Ink, Permanent Marker, Lye (oven cleaner) Quick-Step recommend Denatured alcohol or Acetone™ (nail polish remover), then PA Hard Surface Cleaner or water and an alcohol based soap-free non-abrasive household cleaner (like Windex).
For Gum and Candle Wax Quick-Step recommend that the gum or candle wax be allowed to harden and that it is then gently scraped free with a rubber scraper/spatula. An adhesive remover will remove sticky remnants.
